Research

The main direction of the research is related to the study of the water quality of surface waters and the assemblages of living organisms. Extensive studies are carried out in our department on the abundance and indication properties of various groups of organisms (algae, macrophytes, zooplankton, macroinvertebrates and fish communities). The subject of our research is the modeling of these changes and processes indicating water quality status. Another important task is to study the effects of inorganic and organic variables on the different physiological processes (allelopathy, bioaccumulation, nutrient uptake, toxicity) of certain groups of organisms (algae, macrophytes, dragonflies, fish), considering the biotechnological applications of this research. We consider it an extremely important mission to study the populations of Hungarian protected species and to discover the distribution characteristics of invasive species and their effects on native communities. From the point of view of applied research, we consider it our important task not only to discover the causes of the deterioration of our surface water resources through our results, but also to work out the possibilities with which our degraded various water types and watercourses can be improved.
